Polish Haluski

Writer's picture: Two SoymatesTwo Soymates

We are challenging ourselves to make new dishes from a different culture every week! Week One was Poland, so we made traditional Polish Haluski with Pierogi and Kielbasa. We’ll be posting our Pierogi recipe soon (we want to work out a few kinks first and share only our best!), but for now we’re sharing our Haluski recipe. It’s so simple and SO good!

This recipe will make 4 adult sized portions. You’ll need two large pots, we like to use our Dutch oven for the cabbage & onions, but any large pot will do.

Ingredients:

  • 12oz Bag of Egg Noodles

  • 6 Tablespoons of Unsalted Butter

  • Half of a Medium Sized Cabbage, chopped

  • Half a Large, diced

  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons of Salt

  • More Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Bring water to boil in a large pot for the noodles adding 2 Tablespoons of salt. Once boiling, add noodles, and cook to preferred tenderness.

  2. Place separate large pot on medium heat and add butter. Sauté onions and cabbage until cabbage is fork tender and starting to brown, adding half a Tablespoon of salt while cabbage is cooking. This should take 15-20 minutes.

  3. Drain noodles and add to the cabbage and onions. You can add 1-2 Tablespoons of butter if your noodles are looking a little dry here. Mix well and salt & pepper to taste.

Enjoy it with some traditional Kielbasa!
